Millie McGuire scholarship
The Millie McGuire Scholarship is awarded in May each year to a student enrolled in the Technical Writing Certificate Program at UMass Lowell. The scholarship is managed by the UMass Lowell Director of Giving. The recipient is selected by the NNE Scholarship committee in conjunction with UMass Lowell.
The scholarship was initiated by the NNE chapter to honor a longtime STC member, Millie McGuire. As one of the founders and Past Presidents of our chapter, Millie was responsible for many of the founding policies of the chapter and for building much of the membership. Millie was an extremely energetic and motivating person.
This scholarship focuses on two things that were very important to Millie—education and giving. Millie herself had earned her bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Detroit in 1949. She went on to be certified as a teacher and then as a technical writer. In addition to an active family life, Millie also contributed much of her time to several organizations that meant a lot to her. Each of them benefited from her dedication. It is the desire of the NNE chapter to carry on Millie's traditions and assist those who would benefit from assistance in their education.
